NEW BUSINESS OPENS:  Tea & Tales will open its door for the first time this Saturday, January 16 at 4pm.  It’s a coffee shop with a difference where you can enjoy a cup of coffee or tea while browsing book shelves loaded down with inspirational and self-help books.  Cheese and Wine Reception.  All Welcome.

ART CLASSES:  A qualified and experienced art teacher will be providing the following art classes in Abbeyfeale: 8 weeks starting Wednesday, January 20 at Colaiste Ide agus Iosef from 7.30 -9pm for teenagers/adults. Cost €60.  A beginner’s guide to drawing and painting. Emma will guide you through the basics of fine art and illustrative techniques…. AN INTERGRATED APPROACH TO PHOTOGRAPHY FOR BEGINNERS:  Professional photographer Marie Keating in association with West Limerick Mental Health Association is running a two hour course for amateur photographers in the Desmond Complex on Wednesday, January 13 from 7-9pm.  It must be pre booked so text Photography along with your name and number to 0857722475.  All participants must bring a camera with a manual function.

CAR BOOT SALE AND INDOOR MARKET:  The monthly car boot sale and indoor market – proceeds of which go to help keep West Limerick Community Radio WL102fm on air- will run every month beginning Sunday, January 24 at the Community Centre, NCW.

GLÓRACH CHILDREN’S THEATRE CLASSES:  After three memorable shows just before Christmas, all the kids involved have had a well-earned break and can look forward to the resumption of children’s theatre classes at the Cliabhán on Wednesday, January 20.  Classes for 5-8 year old’s take place between 7 and 8 pm, and for 9-14 year old’s between 8 and 9 pm.

GLÓRACH YOUTH THEATRE:  Preparations are well underway for an upcoming production, and even if you don’t fancy threading the boards, there is always lots of work offstage, be it with props, prompting, curtains or light and sound, and who knows, you may even surprise yourself by taking a small part on stage.  To paraphrase the old Northern Ireland Tourist board ad from the 1990′s, “you’ll never know unless you go.”  Youth theatre classes take place at the Glórach on Thursdays from 7 to 8.30pm , for further enquiries call 0871383940.

KNOCKNASNA N.S. CALLING:  Scoil Náisiúnta Naomh Pádraig is a country primary school for girls and boys located at Knocknasna, Abbeyfeale, Co. COMMUNITY ALERT: The following is downloaded from the Met Éireann website.  It’s called Be Winter Ready and contains advice for homeowners in winter time:  Have a small supply of non-perishable, easy-to-prepare foods.  Keep extra supplies of essential medication in case it is difficult to get to the pharmacy.  Have an adequate supply of fuel for heating/cooking and if possible a suitable alternative should the main supply fail.  Have a shovel and bag of salt to keep paths clear and safe.  Have batteries for torches in the event of power cuts.  Have candles and matches. Candles should always be placed away from draughts in proper candleholders. Never leave a burning candle unattended.  Have a water container to ensure a supply of drinking water. Have emergency contact numbers to hand.  Leave a key and contact details with neighbours or family if you are going away.  Check that loft insulation is thick and in good condition.  Fit your water tank with an insulation jacket or alternatively, wrap the top and sides with suitable insulation material.  Repair any leaks at taps or valves.  Know how to turn off the water supply (usually under the kitchen sink).  Fit draught excluders to your doors and windows.  Make sure heating equipment is well-maintained, vented correctly and working properly.  Ensure chimneys are cleaned at least once a year.

‘ST. ITA’S NIGHT:  Kileedy Parish is named for St Ita – one of the patron saint of our diocese. There is always a great celebration of St Itas feast in her home parish!  St Ita was born in Waterford, but came to Kileedy where she led a community of sisters. She is sometimes called “the white sun of the women of Munster” or the “Brigid of Munster”. Ita is also known as the “Foster Mother of the Saints of Ireland” because she was a mother figure to some of Ireland’s early saints. St Brendan was in Killeedy for five years under the care of St Ita in the monastery at Killeedy from the time when he was a year old. Mass in Ashford Church 11am and in   in Raheenagh Church 7.30pm.  The annual celebration in honour of St. Ita culminates with dancing in Raheenagh Hall on Friday, January 15.  A great night always with tea and sandwiches and goodies served.

MAUREEN’S OUTINGS:  Panto on Sunday, January 31 2016.  This is the 53rd Panto performed by the Killorglin Players Madame Butterfly alia Mrs Aladdin starting at 6pm. in the INEC.  A bus will be leaving Newcastle West at 3pm. and we will pick up in Abbeyfeale at the Church.  By leaving on time we will be able to have some refreshements before the show starts.  For more information and booking contact Maureen 087 9845102.

Spring Break; April 24-27, 2016. We will be staying in the Cavan Crystal 4 star Hotel, Cavan. On our way up we will stop off in Longford to see St. Mel’s cathedral that was destroyed by fire 5 years ago and reopened last Christmas. We have a full and interesting itinerary, touring by day and dancing after dinner in our hotel. On Monday we will go to Armagh where we will visit the Roman Catholic Cathedral and the Church of Ireland Cathedral also we will go and see the Cardinal Tómas O’Fiaich Memorial Library.
