FÉILE COMES TO ABBEYFEALE: Féile Peil na nOg is a GAA annual national competition for 14 year old boys and girls who compete within their respective Counties for a chance to take part in their respective Divisions within the National Finals. This year’s finals are being held throughout South West Munster between June.24-26.
Fr Casey’s Bord na nOg and Ladies Football are not only hosting a Boys Team from South London and a Girls Team – Con Magees – from Co Antrim for the duration of the 3 day event but are also honoured at been given the opportunity to have at least 6 games held in Abbeyfeale over the Friday and Saturday which will also see teams from Newcastle West and Butlersbridge in Co Cavan taking part. This is a huge boost for the Club and the town as a whole with a large number of participants and supporters in attendance.

Also, be aware that all children who are training or playing must wear GAA approved Gum Shields; which can be purchased in most Sport Shops.

THE BIG TODDLE for Barnardos will take place in the Town Park Abbeyfeale on Tuesday June 28 at 11am. This is a fun sponsored walk for toddlers where children themselves have the opportunity to help create positive change for disadvantaged children in Ireland. The toddle is hosted by Abbeyfeale Parent and Toddler Group who meet every Tuesday and Thursday in St. Ita’s Hall Abbeyfeale at 11am. New members are always welcome. Sponsor cards are available at the group. The toddle is followed by a picnic and an opportunity for parents and children to engage in outdoor play. ABBEYFEALE SUMMER CAMP 2016: West Limerick Resources is running a Summer Camp for 6 to 12 year olds on July 11-14 in the Further Education and Training Campus Abbeyfeale (Old Tech). The activities include sport and games, art & craft and a bus trip to Free Range Kids Outdoor Activities in Croom. This camp is free to families in receipt of a social welfare payment. Registration is essential. Application forms are available at Reception in The Further Education and Training Centre and must be returned by Tuesday June 28. SURF TO HEAL FUNDRAISER: A table quiz will take place at TJ O’Riordan’s Bar, Main St on Friday June 24 as a fundraiser for a special camp which runs every summer for children with autism. It starts at 9pm and tables of four are €20. Below are details on the camp which is held annually at Banna Beach.
‘Surf2Heal Kerry surf camp is run out of Banna Beach each August since 2009 and is entirely funded by donations generated through fundraising efforts of the volunteers who organize the camp. Last year, over 50 children with ASD had the opportunity to participate in this wonderful week of fun filled activity. The benefits to the children are far-reaching, providing them with skills that serve them well for the rest of their lives such as building social skills, confidence, communication, spacial awareness, vestibular regulation, emotional empowerment and an overall sense of accomplishment in mastering an activity that might have seemed beyond their capabilities. But most of all, it’s just fun! This is achieved by the use of specialist equipment and trained surf crews who generously give up their time to co-ordinate and train as well as participate for a week of camp. Many of the crew use a week of their annual leave, others fly in from abroad to be part of this special week and team members play host to volunteers from outside Kerry who need accommodation. There is a great camaraderie among the crew and many return year on year for the week. As all of the families participating have 1 or more children with a disability, we try to keep the cost to the family as low as possible to remove barriers to participation. However there are significant costs involved in running a successful camp, not least the transport and feeding of 50+ volunteer crew for 8 hours a day over 5 days, camp insurance and provision and maintenance of the necessary equipment for the camp. In order to continue the legacy and keep this fantastic venture going, we do need ongoing funding.’
REMEMBERING ZOE: A Family Fun Day will take place on Sunday, July 3 at Fr. Casey’s Clubhouse, Abbeyfeale. Underage Blitz’s, Dog Show, Bouncing Castles, Kiddie’s Disco, Face painting, Obstacle courses, Arts and Crafts and Novelty events are just some of the activities laid on for all the family. Gates open 2pm.

CUAN MHUIRE ANNUAL HILLWALK; The Organisers of the annual hill walk have this year chosen Ballyheigue as the location. The walk which takes place on Saturday, June 25 leaves from the Ballyheigue Community Centre to Kerry Head, along the North Kerry Way and returning to Ballyheigue Community Centre where refreshments will be provided. Registration on the day between 08.30 -09.30 hrs at the Community Centre: €20/Adult (over 16yrs), family €50 –2 Adults (Max) and Children (under 16yrs). Walkers will be setting off at 09.30am . THE IRISH CANCER SOCIETY’S VOLUNTEER DRIVER SERVICE: The service is currently seeking volunteer drivers to drive local patients to and from their chemotherapy treatments in Tralee General Hospital, Cork, University Hospital & the Mercy University Hospital, Cork. We are looking for volunteers to pick local patients up at their homes, drive them to the door of the hospital, and pick them up again when they are finished their treatment and bring them home. I-TEACH: The Teaching for Inclusion Research Lab in association with The Autism Spectrum Disorder Special Interest Group (ASDSIG) (PSI) Invite you to a New Foundations one-day research seminar in the University of Limerick on Tuesday, June 28 from 9.00am – 4.30pm. ‘Perspectives in Understanding & Promoting the Emotional Wellbeing of Students with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)’ This research seminar will strengthen understanding of social emotional issues affecting students with autism and how to best promote their wellbeing. Guest speakers will present research findings on issues related to the impact of poor mental health, insights on understanding of issues of social emotional development and promoting greater wellbeing in students with ASD. The seminar is open to all those involved with students with ASD including: researchers, professionals, educators & parents.
COURSE IN CHILD CARE: Limerick Youth Service’s Early Childhood Education and Care Support Course is a two year FETAC Level 4 course that equips learners with the skills necessary to pursue a career and further study in the Childcare profession.
On enrolling students study four modules: Communications, Child Development, Information Technology and Work ExperienceThe child development part of the course is based around portfolio work and their work experience placement covering aspects such as: Key stages of child development, Exploring the relationship between play and child development, Looking at the skills that children develop and use in different types of play activities. Preparing a play activity that meets the basic developmental needs of a child. Child observation techniques. Recognising the diverse needs of children and families and linking it to children at play. Learners will also avail of the social and personal development courses available with LYS such as Junior Leadership Programmes, youth exchange and summer activities. On graduation from the course learners can progress to a FETAC Level 5 course, ideally in Childcare, or to employment.
