An interesting read….The History of St.Ita’s Hall

June 24th, 2014
St. Ita’s Hall was originally known as the Parochial Hall.  It was officially opened on New Year’s Night 1928.  Fund-raising for the Hall was organised by Canon Jeremiah Murphy, who had been appointed P.P. of Abbeyfeale in  April 1924.  The building of the Hall was a co-operative effort, all involved giving their services free.  This new Hall replaced the Temperance Hall, which was burned by The Black & Tans.  In the downstairs area the late Mr. Jim Kelly and his sister Anna commenced their Post Primary School, later to become St. Ita’s College in a new location.
Presently the Hall is a hive of activity – Legion of Mary, Bereavement Support, West Limerick Community Development, Parents’ & Toddler Groups and many others. In recognition of Abbeyfeale’s proud association with the Irish Language the name over the main door reads “Halla Íde Naofa”

Abbeyfeale Drama Group

Abbeyfeale Drama Group was founded in 1989 with its first production taking to the stage in 1990 with two one act plays by John B. Keane – “One Way Tickets” and “Backwater”.  Over the years many plays have been staged in halls throughout Counties Limerick, Kerry and Clare.

Our Group has grown from strength to strength and welcomes new and enthuastic members every year.   We have always been conscious to bring theatre to the community and our yearly production in the month February is eagerly awaited by everyone far and near.  Our plays are influenced by the demands of the local people and we have developed a special talent for interpreting the work of any author – serious or comedy.

The Abbeyfeale Drama Group has been a regular contributor to the Listowel Writers Week, where we perform a series of acts from various plays many of which belong to the late John B. Keane.

In appreciation of the valued support received every year we sponsor several local and further afield charities and groups from our proceeds.

The year 2014 is a pivotal one for us Abbeyfeale Drama Group are celebrating 25 years in production.

Over these years our group has grown and bonded with special friendships and always has a warm welcome for new and past members.  We look forward to your valued and continued support and here’s to another 25 years of Abbeyfeale Drama Entertainment
